Along with the practical part of my Bachelor Thesis comes an abstract on my research, my assumptions, approaches and creative and visual decisions. Der Narzissmus der Popkultur (The narcissism of popular culture) - as the paper is entitled - describes the phenomenon of how the Generation Y is obsessed with the past rather than with it's present. Instead of creating our own movements or youth subcultures we continuously cite past subcultures and decades with our fashion, music and design. But if we keep cycling trends that have been, doesn't that hold the risk that at some point there will be nothing left to revive?
